About the project
“52 Cities” chronicles my ongoing challenge to visit at least 52 cities in each calendar year. As of 2015, I have now completed it for five years running.
No, it doesn’t take unlimited time, and no, it doesn’t take unlimited money. Frequent flier miles help a little. Working-from-home capabilities help a lot. Road trips help the most.
I’m convinced that all you really need to do this, though, is the desire and the determination to get out and discover every inch of this world. And my hope is that you’ll find something here that helps you or inspires you to do just that.
Note: I use the term “city” a bit loosely–some of these are towns, or even public lands. Anywhere I went intentionally for the express purpose of checking it out makes the cut. “52 Destinations” just didn’t have the same ring, you know?
My name is Carly, and I’ve been running around the world like a crazy person since moving back to the U.S. from Europe in 2011 and deciding that didn’t mean I had to stop adventuring. I’m currently based in Washington, D.C., but I come from Chicago and I’m pretty damned proud of it.
You can find me at my day job here.
